Pastoral Connection: Learning To Be Gospel Famous
April 21, 2024
Reread Acts 1:12 – 26
“Many people do great work for the gospel and to advance the church who will never become famous.”
All believers should have at least one desire in their lives, and that is to finish well. Regardless of the mistakes we make, and we will make mistakes, the Lord can help us clean up any messes we make along the way and still finish well. This provision is available to every believer.
Christians are not immune to sin. They are, however, saved by grace through faith of the eternal consequences of those sins. Although we may endure earthly repercussions of our actions, we may still progress in the Lord’s name and advance His kingdom in one way or another.
Three guardrails exist that will go a long way to keep us effective and on the proper path. Should we slip and need to get back on track, these guardrails exist to also clean up any mess we make. These 3 guardrails are (1) remaining saturated with scripture, (2) remain persistent in prayer, and (3) committed to remaining surrounded by our Christian community.
Dive Deeper
2 Timothy 3:16, 17 “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”
Romans 12:12 “’Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.”
Hebrews 10:24, 25 “And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.”
Practical Application
No Christian walks the path God sets up for them perfectly. If you feel yourself slipping off the path God wants you to walk, take a moment and evaluate where you are spiritually and what you might be missing.
Every human being needs 3 things to survive physically: food, water, and protection from the elements. Every believer’s spirit needs 3 things to remain strong and grow the right way: reading scripture, continuous prayer, and fellowship with other believers. If you find yourself slipping in any area, it will cause the other areas to suffer.
