Pastoral Connection: An Encounter With God Can Change Everything
May 12, 2024
There’s a song titled “There Is Power in The Name of Jesus.” The title tells the truth, but there is also power in a light bulb when you flip a light switch. There is power in your car or lawnmower when you turn the engine on. You can also have power in your house when a thunderstorm takes out the neighborhood transformer if you have a backup generator.
There is power in the name of Jesus; what’s the difference? Light bulbs, engines, and even backup systems can fail, yet we flip the switch with full confidence they are going to work. The difference lives in the fact that Jesus does not, cannot fail.
Philippians 2:9 – 11 tells us, “Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven, and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
The kind of power that resides in Jesus’ name is the kind of power that created the heavens and the earth. It’s the power that put all of existence together, from the greatest solar system down to the tiniest microbe and keeps them functioning every minute of every day. The power in Jesus is such that He can answer our prayers to a degree that we cannot understand and will do so, in the will of the Father, because He loves us so much it will make Him happy to do so.
Dive Deeper
John 14:13, 14 “Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.”
Colossians 3:17 “And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”
Practical Application
When you pray, pray in Jesus’ name because doing so prepares us for the encounters we will have, with friends or enemies. Prayer in Jesus’ name can also change every circumstance, such as preparing our hearts for forgiveness and opening our minds to the Father’s will.
Praying in Jesus’ name releases a new identity in us and releases a new destiny for us. Praying in Jesus’ name can change anything, everything for us according to the Father’s will, which is always in our best interest and for His glory.
